I was considering trading for a swamp rat HRLM, but was wondering about how hard is sr-101 to sharpen? Like for example with strops?

SR101 AKA 52100 ball bearing steel is a high quality fine grain carbon alloy steel with excellent performance values. Fairly easy to sharpen and best sharpened with sandpaper, water stones, or oil stones. Capable of extreme mirror polished edge finishes and straight razor like sharpness it easily makes for some of the sharpest edges I've created. Stropping is a final finishing step or a touch-up for a slightly dulled edge, if the edge feels dull, you can see flat/shiny spots, or visible deformations, stropping will not do much.

Sandpaper or a norton stone would be a good choice for your sharpening needs.

Just sharpened a Swamp Warden with Waterstones from my Edge pro kit. It's around as easy to sharpen as 1095, but seems to hold an edge better already

It is simple carbon steel heat treated to perfection - do not worry about sharpening it. Never heard about problem with this with any sharpening tools and technics. It was first knife I got to mirror polish.

This is the best steel in this knife class - tough fixed blades.

Thanks, Vassili.

I think it's one of the easiest to sharpen, and like others have said, it takes a great edge. One of my favorite steels for knives.

i have s30v, sr101, infi, vg10, aus8, and some other carbon like moras ect and sr101 is the easiest for me to get sharp

no problems, here, the edge on my Rodent gleams :D the size of the blade was a bigger issue than the type of steel. it's length makes it awkward to sharpen (for me) but when i finished, it was beautiful and when i tried to wipe it down with some oil, it cut right through the papertowels and into the heel of my palm. i really like SR101 :)

I reprofiled my RMD on my Edge Pro. Angle was really obtuse but once I had it down to 20 degrees on each side the SR101 steel is amazing. Hacking at wood and shrubs and it still will shave.
