Sharpening steel on Chisel Edge

do any of you use a steel on your Chisel Edge factory Emersons. I find that i'm touching up the blade on my PSARK every night with a Spyderco fine white ceramic rod finished by stropping which produces a rough hair shaving sharp. Is it possible that by touching up the blade every night I will remove to much metal in a short amount of time and cause the edge to require re-profiling? would using a steel help save the edge? I don't have a steel and have no experience using one so I have no idea what to expect using a steel on a chisel edge.

brandon-
are you actually using your PSARK to the point where it actually needs sharpening, or are you just so in love with it that you have to stroke it every night ?.....lol
as long as you maintain the original angle of the edge it will take quite a while before a regrind should be necessary.
i assume that you are not considering using any steel other than a diamond "steel". while i dont own a PSARK...yet...a round or oval diamond would be ideal for the slight curve on the knifes edge.
hope this helps you.

Can't talk about the PSARK specifically, but I have a steel that I use on every knife I have, from my SAK to my serrated Spyderco Harpy. Not sure if I'm supposed to use it on chisel-edge serrated knives, but I do, and it works.

It's a folding steel made by... pretty sure it's Razoredge.

Of course, if you're not actually DULLING the knife that much every day, steeling every night might actually be LESS beneficial than sharpening every night...

Hope this helps,
James

I occasionally straighten the edge on my Commanders with a Henkel kitchen steel.
Works fine!

thanks for the replies do far.
Ken do you have the kind of steel that is smooth or slightly scored with lines running around the edge? I have one that has the lines in it but have never used it for any of my knives so far.

Emerson Girl and James, I am dulling it to the point that it needs to be sharpened. I use it almost every day for cutting straps, boxes. cutting and stripping wire, rope, high pressure hoses, hydraulic lines and more. I think I have seen the razor edge steel you are talking about. I think i'll look into that. thanks again

Brandon
