Sharpening 'Steel'

Has Spyderco considered using one of the long ceramic pieces from the, now sadly discontinued, table-mount sharpener to make something in the shape of a knife steel? I've been looking for such a product as a fast way to sharpen knives while cooking, and nothing seems to exist except diamond products, which I dislike.
