I've read reference lately, in for sale ads, to the bottom flap of the stone pouch, on the sheath, being turned under or sewn flat.
Is this in any way an indicator of sheath age or manufacture?

I thought it probably had to do with the size of the sheath.

In more recent vintage knives, the stone pocket being sewn on three sides means it is a Johnson made sheath. Sullivan Holster Shop, the current Randall sheath maker, sews the two vertical sides and brings the bottom end up and under to make the snap flap.
