but was chiped in a fey places so I picked this one (to make it fare my mom payed for half so I gave her $6

) I don't remember what the other was made of. Do you other knife nuts think there is a better stone out there that I could get, or is this one good enough.

Pardon my jumpyness in my writing... I just woke up.

Silicon Carbide is second only to diamond stones in hardness. Quality might be a issue. That seems to be a little cheap for that type of stone. How big is it? Have you tried it yet?

It is 6"x2"x1" and I got it from ace hardware. I have tried it on 1 (what seems to be) recurve blade but am not an expert sharpener and do not know what to look for

it got heel of the blade sharp but the tip was still dull.

I was at an 11-15 degree angle and was using it dry.

the blade I was using was made in pakastan and was 3 1/4" long

Take care on recurves that you don't wear away the edge of the stone.

It hurts to be on the cutting edge.

Sears carries a 2 sided black SC stone 7x2x1 for about $8. Greatstones. I use them dry with no problems.

Harbor Freight has a three pack of diamond stones, 2x6 in. for about $12.00.
I bought a set yesteday, but haven't tried them yet. The coarsest really feels very coarse. The also have a keychain siezed set for $8.00.
