Could some one please help. I have a couple of bench stones that I havent used much for about a year. Been using my translucent and pocket stone for touch ups. I decided last night to pull out these stones to sharpen a few old friends that havent seen much attention in years. The problem is I think that some one may have put the stones back in the wrong boxes. The one sitting in the box marked hard is white but seems to have a rougher texture than the one sitting in the box marked soft (stone is pink/gray). By just running my fingers across them I think that the pink/gray one is the hard stone....... Any suggestions on how to tell before I just start sharpening away?

the rougher grit stone will have a rougher feel to it. The translucent will be very fine. You'll be able to tell the difference when sharpening. One will bite more that the other.
