hey guys,

I'm putting an order together for a few things and I wanted to get a sharpening stone that I can keep in my pack with me.

I've got to the point where I can touch up an edge freehand without breaking into a sweat. :D

As far as choices go do you all prefer DMT or Eze-Lap?

Thanks!

DMT and Ezelap are both excellent.

Fallkniven makes a great 3" and 4" combo stone also, DC3/DC4

If you have gotten the knife where you want it, you probably just want to do some "touch up" in the field. Probably the best would be a DMT Red (fine) hone. Maybe if you're into heavy field use (chopping wood) a blue (coarse) stone would be better. If you want both get the one which has blue on one side and red on the other. These are plastic based so they are very light. They are called Double sided Diafold from DMT. Another good one if you are into "steel" type round sharpeners is the EZE-LAP round diamond steel. The one you want is called the EZE-LAP Sportsman's Diamond Hone model EZLM which comes in a brass handle and leather sheath. For the field, both of these are better than ceramic hones because they are unbreakable. Spyderco makes some ceramic ones called the ProFiles which are for field use. Try the 701M (medium hone) or the 701MF which contains both medium and fine hones, but remember - they will break or chip if dropped. Cheers, Alex.
