looking for a good sharpening setup.
I bought a smith ez sharp kit kind of liek the knock off lansky. Does not seem to work to well and you only get 2 angles.

I have herd good things of the spyderco sharpmaker but was wondering how it compares to a Lansky.

Any opinions

Lansky and the Sharpmaker are two different styles.

I have both and use the Sharpmaker almost exclusively. It is easier to set up and works very quickly for most of my knives. It is great for maintenance and touch up.

The Lansky is good when you need to set a bevel or re-bevel since it is a clamp type system using a guide rod to help maintain the bevel.

The other one to consider if you are very serious would be the Edge Pro system. It also uses a clamp/guide rod system. It is more expensive, but you will get better results on it than on the Lansky-in most cases for most people.
