i have a zt 300 and struggle sooo much with sharpening it. i have tried crock sticks, smith guided system, diamond rod, belt sander (which in turn lead me to sanding off enough material that the blade was maybe 40% of what is was orginally. Though i must say Kershaw's warranty department is incredible. they replaced my blade under warranty. i was hoping to be able to buy just the blade when i contacted them, but they said send it in. so i did was they asked and they replaced the blade, rebuild any worn parts. pretty much gave me back a new knife. I would definitely say that Kershaw/Zero Tolerance has the best warranty/ customer service out there) anyways i need a sharpener that is guided in some manor or another (yes i believe i free hand, but the recurve part of the blade is problematic, so i do sharpening free hand on my more traditional style blades), dont want to spend send over $100. right now my plan is to make a multi-position crock stick type thing that would allow the use of larger diamond sharpening sticks, like maybe 10" in lenght and .5 to .75" round. I know that could add up to well over a hundred bucks, but i should be able to get the base and at least 1 coarse diamond rod for well under that price range. then i would be able to at least set the bevel and use my small crock sticks to hone and polish. i have searched and searched this forum, the internet and every where else i can think of to find what i am looking for. I know the usual recommendation; Sharp Maker (not really interested in due to cost (base + diamond sharpening triangles, not to mention i would be just using the tip of the triangle), edgepro or any other pricey system just because i am cheap and i only need it over recurves. have slowly found other not as well known sharpener like KME, TriAx, Warthog. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Plans to make one would be a god sent.

I like sandpaper over leather for recurves but a diamond oval rod will work well. EZ lap sells some good ones.
