Sharpening Tanto Blades

I think I have a pretty unique method of testing the edges on blades I have just sharpened. My wife is a Dental Hygienist and she get's lots of free dental floss. After I sharpen a blade, I take a whack at a piece of floss. If the floss cuts easily, I consider the blade sharp.
I have a Pro-Tech "X-Duke" (Tanto blade). It's very sharp. Both edges of the blade part the floss with no effort. Still, when I feel the edge of the main part of the blade with my thumb, then the shorter, upswept front part of the blade, (carefully!) I can feel a difference. Not exactly less sharp, but different.
Has anyone ever noticed that the front upswept edge of a tanto blade feels different from the edge of the long part of the blade? I think I'm dealing with two different types of edges here. What do you think? This is only the second tanto style blade I've owned, so I'm still learning about them.

The area immediately behind the edge (and the edge is microscopic) is called the relief. Shallow relief means a better edge. Usually the main edge of tanto blades has great relief while the tip is ground quite thick, so the relief is quite thick too. I suspect this could be the reason why you feel different edges.
