Greetings you all:)

Since joining the traditional sub forum and switching from my fully serrated Spyderco's to Classic/Traditional slipjoints, I have been making lots of efforts to master free hand sharpening.

I am to the point that I can get my somewhat bigger knives (Opinel 6 and up and SAK Soldier) shaving sharp, but I don't seem to get my little ones even close.

I sharpen with a Spyderco Pocket Stone. Hand held.

I try to keep the angles as constant as possible.

Like I said; succes with my bigger knives but terrible with the little ones.

Darn, I can't even get my little SAK Classic or Opinel 5 shaving sharp again.

Let alone my SS Peanut or my SS Swayback Jack.

Very frustrating :grumpy:

So I hope you can give me some pointers.

Thanks very much for reading

A few ideas:
- Lay the hone on a stable, non slip surface. This makes it easier to hold the proper angle.
- Create a burr first with the brown side of the hone on both sides of the blade. Remove at higher angle with just the wait of the blade. This should make it sharp enough to easy shave hair. Repeat with the white side if you want.
- Strop for extra sharpness
- Read: The Razor Edge Book of Sharpening by John Juranitch
- Practice, practice, practice, practice

Veel succes!

JD
