I got myself a Clax a few weeks ago and I've been using it heavily. I have an unbelievable growth of honeysuckle 12' high running the length of one side of my property. The Clax has been invaluable in getting it out. The downside is one edge is no longer razor sharp which is key in chopping through this stuff.

Anyone done any sharpening of the Clax? Any suggestions? I am aware of the mouse pad/sand paper method but the blade is recurved and pretty big.

As a side note, if you are thinking of getting a Clax, do it. I thought it would just be a novelty/amusment item but I decided to give it a real go with brush clearing work. I couldn't be happier. Its a beast when used with care.

you can sharpen a large recurve by hand but it can give you fits if its really dull. a dowel with abrasive paper wrapped around it wont get the full length of the blade leaving an area dull at the grind start. i have a method for sharpening large recurves by hand but its too much info to type. pm me your number and i'll talk you through it.
