Sharpening the D2 mini-grip, what is the angle of it?

I tried the marker trick and it appears it's neither 30 or 40 degrees. Because the very middle of the edge isn't being shapened... I find this odd. This is the first time sharpening this knife on my new sharpmaker. I just finished sharpening my kabar dozier on 40 degrees.

I can't get the burr on the 40 degree setting. 30 degrees is way off I know that. I also know that the D2 is harder to sharpen. So I cleaned all my stones and started with the med grit on the corner. Still no burr after 15 mins. The knife wasn't used a lot since I got it from Cabella's. It wasn't that sharp when it was new either.

:( :( :(

Maybe you just really need to work on reshaping it. I fing 40 degress is best for Benchmades.

I just do the Brown/grey stones untill the edge can cut paper very smoothly and it will take off some hair. Then I do the White stones.

also make sure you got the Knife staright. It can be tricky with those thumbstuds. I dont even know if ur knife has thumbstuds or not but if it does. be carefull

Where is the marker being rubbed off? Most of my benchmades came with edges wider than 40 degrees. D2 can be a real b!tch with the Sharpmaker. I thought I'd have no trouble reprofiling my Queen Stockman with D2 blades, WRONG, that stuff is hella tough. I wonder if Queen runs their D2 harder than other manufatures because I was getting no where fast.

After about 20 mins it finally worked. It just had to be re-shaped to 40 degrees. It was close to 40 but not exactly.

However, there's another problem now, I think I rounded the tip a bit by accident. How do you sharpen the tip without rounding it? I dragged the knife over the stone from the very bottom to the tip and when I got to tip it slipped a few times and stone shaved off the pointy tip. (ran the tip over the flat side when I was using the corner).

Hmm, I actually find D2 to be pleasant with the Sharpmaker. I find it much easier than VG-10 and alot alot easier than CPM-S30V. But I dont know about reprofiling. I have only done it when there was a very good edge on the blade already.
