Hello I recently got my gurka kukri in 01 steel and it’s great for chopping. When the edge needs touching up all i have is a sharp maker is this ok to use? Thanks.

Yes, you can use the corners of the sticks to get into the curved sections. Sandpaper works really well too.

There's some good info on sharpening kuhkri's in the Himalayan Imports forum on BF. Here's one, and then the last link is from HI's website.

Before sharpening, be sure to steel the edge first. That may be all you need to do. I usually just steel my khuks with a screwdriver shaft from the tool bench and then strop it a little. It ends up as sharp as before I used it.

Just invest in a Kalamazoo 1SM and you can put blisteringly sharp convex edges on anything in minutes.
