Does anyone know if the Matriarch SE can be sharpened with the sharpmaker or should it be send in for in house sharpening by Spyderco?
I just bought a black Matriarch and would like to use it as an EDC, but i am afraid it will get dull and i won't be able to sharpen it myself due to the profile of the blade.

Absolutely. It is a little trickier than a standard serrated edge but not bad. The serrations are all cut the same direction so you don't have to do any big tilting or anything. Just keep the knife vertical like you would any other and microbevel with the corners of the fine rods on the serrated side. Every two or three swipes make a near flat pass on the back side to remove any burr that forms. Using light pressure is key on a blade shape like the matriarch as they will prevent twisting when you get to the oddly shaped bits.

I do this on my matriarch and serrated hawkbills all the time and it works great.
