Hello fellow Busse lovers,
what is the best way to sharpen my Busse Team Gemini? I think it has full convex zero grind.

edit: I found how to sharpen convex edges, easy with a mouse pad. But in this case I am not sure, since it is a zero grind.

Thanks in advance,

I have sharpened mine on a dmt duo fold red/blue sharpener, a ezlap diamond sharpener and a mouse pad with wet dry sandpaper and a leather strop. They all work to put a good razor edge on.

What Dave said!!!

Thanks for the input guys. Do you put the whole side of the blade on the sharpening medium, or just a bit? Like creating a micro bevel?

micro bevel, that is how I do mine. I like my stones. :)

Its also good for coated blades if you want to keep it intact for the most part. Some of it has to go regardless.

Exactly what Leatherman said, I just put the last bit of the edge on the paper and try not to take the coating off higher up. generally it comes out looking like this.

Exactly! :) Mine end up looking more like the bottom picture. I always end up removing some of the coating because of the blunt nature of the coated knives, its not a big deal and improves the cutting so much. My Heavy Duty lost quite a bit of coating when I raised the profile to make it slice better.

By the way, FYI, the coating will load a stone very quickly but will scrub out with a green scrub pad and some Comet cleanser or other powdered cleanser. This works especially well on ceramic stones, the metal and coating rub off after a little elbow grease.

Hey, thanks for even putting more information out. The thing is that I have a Team Gemini from the recent Ganza with the satin finish. So my thought now was to use a mouse pad with sand paper and just put a micro bevel on it. I don't want to ruin the beautiful finish with unnatural scratches. Scratches from using it, are not a problem, but I don't like the idea of sratching it while sharpening it.
Anyway, I am not sure how I could sharpen it the way it is sharpened right now, without destroying the finish. Therefore a micro bevel seems to be the only way with the tools I have here. This is my first knife with a convex zero grind.

Edit: I am sorry about my ignorance about the knife. As it turns out it has a flat primary grind and convex edge bevel.

The best thing I have used on convex edges is the Worksharp. Just be careful around the tip. I use mine without the guide.

Even with a convex zero-grind, sharpening is the same, altering the edge-geometry via grinding at a steeper angle to produce a more robust edge. With a full convex grind that is apexed (sharpened) with a convex grind, the edge-bevel simply blends better into the primary.
