Hi, sorry if this has been discussed before, but searching anything with "tip" in it lead to no results/ sharpening advice.

I seem to have a bit of a problem using my sharpmaker on the tip of my knife. It seems that when I get to the end of a stroke, my knife slides off and the tip of the knife scratches against the rods and ends up blunting it. Any "tips" for sharpening my "tips" would be greatly appreciated.

I try to only use the SM flats on the tips so as not to round them. When I use the corners I stop just short of the tip and then finish on the flats.

A technique that works for me is to start with the tip at the top of the stone, work on the first inch or so of the edge and then blend it in using the standard method.

I'm not sure what the policy on posting youtube links is, so just go to youtube and do a search of "spyderco sharpmaker." You should get only one video as a result, and that video has advice on how to not blunt your tip with the sharpmaker as well as how to bring back a tip that has been blunted. Great stuff.

Good vid, but an extra tip: Stand up when using the Sharpmaker.

I find it is easier to maintain the correct angles when I am standing looking straight down on the sharpener.

I think the instructions that came with my sm said to use slow deliberate strokes. I think this does work better and you can control the stroke so your tip doesnt slide off the rod when your using the flats. When I sharpen the tips, I just work the tip section over a short stroke of the rod so it cant slide off. Definately stand up so your looking down over the sm. Much much better control and view of your blade angle.
