Hey guys. So if you have a knife that has a sharp edge on it, but a dull tip, how would you sharpen just the tip of a knife? thanks guys.

Do you mean dull tip as in the blade edge toward the tip is not sharp, or that the tip, which should be pointed, is rounded off?

If the former, just sharpen the knife and be sure you're getting the edge at the tip of the blade.

If the latter, you can just wait it out and sharpen the knife "correctly" from now on. Over time, it will be corrected. Otherwise, you can remove some metal from the spine of the blade to restore the point. Do this with a belt sander or bench grinder, but be very careful not to mess things up (and if things get messed up, it will happen FAST.)

Depends on how you prefer to sharpen but to get my tips sharp I start with them on an 8 inch stone and work my way back to the handle throughout the stroke (most people sharpen from handle, out and away from their body following the curve of the blade but then the tip barely scrapes the stone before the stroke is over) Sharpen the same way you would normally but backwards set the tip on the stone and with both hands for stability begin going with the curve of the blade and making sure to keep the same angle throughout. it'll feel weird as hell at first especially if your not used to freehanding. I used to get the rest of the blade shaving sharp but the tip would never be near as sharp until I heard about this technique and its how I do it all the time now

I set the tip on my dmt x course at the angle the tip should be and grind away until it is pointy then blend that in with the rest of the edge. It works like a charm
