SHARPENING THE TIP?

I've been using the Shaprmaker 204 and can't seem to get the tip looking like the way it came new (pointed, symetrical and sharp). I've even tried using my Edge-Pro Pro, but no luck - had to finally send my Umfaan back to CRK for re-sharpening. It came back looking perfect! I would like to obtain the same results myself - does anyone have any good tips (no pun intended!) on how to achieve this? Thanks in advance....

Steve,
When you're sharpening your knife on the angulated portions of the Sharpmaker (the triangle part) do not swipe the blade all the way through. In other words stop right before the tip falls off the stone. This will prevent rounding of the tip or as Sal Glesser says, "reenforcement of the point"

.

When you use the flat portions of the stone you can now make up for "missing" the point and will still be able to stop before the tip falls away from the stone or rounds off. The Sharpmaker is a great sharpening system but it will round off any point if you pull the knife all the way through. It has happened to a bunch of my knives and after Sal recommended the above I haven't had the problem since.

I hope this makes sense. I'm half asleep.

If you use a stone you can rock the point and follow the grind.
