What are the proper edge angles for sharpening the Vietnam Tomahawk. I also remember reading a thread on the Axe/Hawk forum that the top edge was sharpened, is this true? If so how far back should you bring the edge?

Thanks!

It has been rather quiet in here lately. I'm guessing they're in the shop right not spending a lot of time putting on some VT handles, but that's just a hunch.

If you want to maintain the NIB edge profile just outline the edge with a marker. This will allow you to see where you are sharpening and you can adjust the angle accordingly.

Sorry for the delay in posting to this thread. The angle is approx 23 degrees on the VT. However that does vary since they are not all exactly the same. The quickest way to sharpen it is with a belt grinder. However I know that most of you don't ahve access to that particular piece of equipment so you can use just about any thing to sharpen the VT. A ceramic stick can be used also almost any stone will work. The coarseness of the stone will depend on how bad your edge is. If it is really bad start with your coarse stone and work your way down to the fine. Try to keep the same angle with each one. Basically you would sharpen the VT just like you would any knife. Hope this helps.

If your edge is dented or rolled at all, you may want to start out by using a steel to realign the edge. In this way, you will have less steel to actually remove when you switch to your stone or ceramic.
