For those of you who are new and have not already done so, I highly advise you to watch nozh2002 's sharpening videos on youtube. If you're struggling with freehand thechniques this should help a lot. Following these same basics I was able to put a hair whittling edge on a gerber mini paraframe and then shave with it before work. I hear a lot of people talk about their struggles with freehand. Hopefully this helps.

actually i believe its a series of 13 or 14 short videos that take you step by step from re profiling to hair whittling. and the tittles are sharpening II 001, sharpening II 002, etc. but yeah its the same user. you can find the videos on his channel.

Excellent videos, and a dirt simple way to help with angle control. I prefer the stones be verticle, but that's from years of using a Sharpmaker.
