Anyone have problems sharpening with a Kwik Stud? Where I have mine on my 110LT makes it hard to sharpen the edge at the base of the blade. If I move the stud, it makes it harder to open one-handed, defeating the purpose of having it in the first place. Any suggestions?

I am not familiar with the Kwik Stud. Can you simply remove it for sharpening and put it back on when you’re done?

I haven't had a problem yet. I place mine fairly close to the tang end, though. On the 110 I'm looking at now, about 2/3 of the stud is past the edge of the bolster toward the pivot. It's harder to open that way, but it doesn't get in the way when I'm using or sharpening.

I have mine set up so the center of the stud and the grind line are lined up. I get the best leverage for my thumb there. When I sharpen on a stone I find I can’t get the quarter inch of blade closest to the ricasso sharp. I usually touch up after a lot of cutting, and it would be kind of a nuisance to have to take the stud off every time. I had a stud on a 110 in the past, in the same place, and didn’t have this problem.

I'm with eveled on this. I dislike studs. But since you do. Have you tried angling the blade on your stone?

O.B.

Maybe shorten the stud slightly? Maybe even just on the leading edge?

I dislike the look of the stud as well, but it’s the knife I use more by the water, so I don’t like to drop-open it or use my thumb against the blade without a stud.

eveled eveled i might try that.

Back when I carried a 422 in my pocket every day I would one hand open it by pinching the blade between my thumb and forefinger with the pivot end towards my hand (so the point out) and using my middle finger push the handle down; like drop opening but more controlled and works with lightweight versions. Once I hit a certain point I would just put the butt against my pants and leverage it open the rest of the way.
