Sharpening with slip stone Bonded Abrasives

I am asking for some help please I have never used a slip stone to sharpen my carving knives and I just got some from Dans wet stones I have looked on line for help in you tube but can not find anyone using a round side 1/4 >1/8 for a crook knife. I hope someone on here can help me I am having a devil of a time with them do I use water or oil? I know with the Novaculite you use oil only. I can not build up a slurry with water and I do have Japanese wet stones and get a wonderful slurry. The question is this do i this do I use oil on them after they have sat a week to dry out ? thank you and are there any videos on using them on a crook knife thank you all so much
