Sharpening yer knife

Well, it finally happened. I've been using my 2 and 9 for a few months, and the factory edge on them was pretty good, but finally dulled to the point I weren't happy. This 1095CV held up really well to the abuse I put my 9 through chopping and a bit of batoning, but it really started to show the dulling on the belly (chopping mostly)

So, how do you sharpen your knives? I use a fine/ultra fine DMT sharpener. I usually do it by hand, but I recently got their 20$ magnet guide and it does the same as doing it by hand, but lazier. So I've been using that. Puts a razor edge on this steel.

BUT I've been reading about other things, I've always had sharp knives and kept them maintained, but I didn't (and still don't) know about stropping, and convexing an edge. And convex stroppers out there? Work well? Advantages? :D

Somebody on here gave me a good link/info about sandpaper when I first joined. I'll hafta see if I can find it.

I use a smith tri-hone. And then strop on a old leather belt I had. No compound though. It puts a shaving sharp edge on all my knives. I usually only use the medium and fine sides on the tri-hone. The course comes out if I really bang up an edge doing something stupid.lol.

LOVE my spyderco sharpener. LOVE it! from there i have medium long stone, leather strop and hard diamond stone. i think i have everything i need to sharpen a knife. my only slight issue is on some knives i can get damn sharp and some just barely..

good deal! I was looking into a strop, I might should again...

EDIT: how much difference can you see between stropping after sharpening and just sharpening?

Lately I've been using these little guys. We use them for honing the head deck of engine blocks. When they're up for tool change they just throw 'em away , so I snatch a handful up every now and then. They're pretty good for touch ups, I haven't used them to put and edge on, just for maintaining.
