What is the best way or best tools to use while sharpening ZPD-189 steel? I just bought a Kershaw Blur with the composite ZDP-189 blade. I have been using a ceramic rod, but I can't get the super sharp edge that I get on most of my cheaper knives. This steel is really hard. Any advice would be great.

Diamonds are your best friend. You're going to have to get some kind of rods, though, to get that reverse curve.

For ZDP its in your best interest to have a good diamond stone to start the bevel but after that I've found waterstones to probably do the best job with ZDP. Ceramics are OK but because of the dense hardness of both can cause the edge of the blade to chip.

Once you get a coarse diamond a 1k 4k and 8k waterstone should finish up nicely.

I have sharpened ZDP189 on Silicon Carbide, Aluminum Oxide, and microcrystaline quartz abrasives and have had no problems with chipping edges. I set the stones a 15 degrees off vertical. The included edge measures 30 degrees.
