So I'm having one helluva nightmare trying to get a nice edge on my gamewarden, anyone have any helpful links or videos they can recommend...

I use a strop with black, green, white compounds and sometimes some fine grit sandpaper.....that does the trick for me

Your first issue is edge angle. Is it pretty obtuse? I had the same issue with my Heavy Duty, the edge angle was very thick. Every time I tried to work on it nothing would happen as I was still grinding metal behind the edge trying to get it to a working angle. I still have a couple of Busse's from that time period that wouldn't be good on an axe. But the nice thing is its easy to get them into shape with patience. :)

I prefer to reprofile my edges to convex as I see no benefits to leaving it flat ground or close to flat. Here's the technique I use.....

Is that you bro?

I have 600/1200/2000 grit wet dry sand paper, will that be good enough?

Didn't you buy a Spyderco combo stone ? if this is what you are using it should work out just fine as soon as you get the angle right. also are you going convex or v?

I live this dude! I'm subbed on his YouTube. He makes sweet knives too.

Yea I got that stone as well, it is already convexd so for now il leave it as is, I'm playing with the angels and yea it seems to need a much steeper angel then I thought , it's starting to come along now , going through paper pretty good and cutting some hairs, but still not razor

When i sharpen with the Spyderco stone or any other stone for that matter i always make sure i start behind the sharp part of the edge, i will try to explain as best i can.

Take look at the convex edge in this pic and imagine that you start sharpening the cutting part of it first, what you end up with if you do this is a blunter edge angle, do this enough and your edge will be a bitch to get sharp. :( But if you take care of the convex on both sides before touching the cutting part of the edge the geometry will be correct and you can move on to joining both of the convex sides into a razor sharp cutting edge.

when you get it sharp enough to shave arm hair a little stropping is usally all that is needed to take your edge from shaving to hair popping crazy sharp.

Thanks guys , finally got a nice sharp mirrored edge with all your help!!!! Feels good to go from butter knife to Gillette by my own hand

One trick that is helpful is to blacken the edge with a Sharpie marker. Then after you make a sharpening stroke, look closely at the edge to see where you are removing metal, and adjust accordingly.

I was playing around with my new basic 10 and my bark river strop. I wasnt having much luck so itook it to my work sharp and now its razor sharp.
