I have worked the overtime and now waiting for payday. I should have enough for the spike tomahawk!

My question is "What is the best way to keep my new hawk sharp?". It has been quite a while since I sharpened any type of axe.

I had read about the Vietnam Tomahawk years ago. I can hardly wait for my chance to own one!!!

Thanks!!

I use my Spyderco Triangle sharpener on my knives and hawks. No complaints so far.

BUT, a little word of wisdom. Don't wait until the knife/hawk is as dull as a bowling ball, before your sharpen it. Just sharpen it when you are finished using it. makes sharpening alot easier!!

I'd also consider making an investment in a good steel. With softer blades in particular they can help realign the edge without removing steel. And the point about not letting the blade get too dull is right on. I like to keep a steel with me and give it a dozen licks on each side just as it loses the ability to scrape hair. This will keep the edge in line, get rid of micro-rolls and dings, and ensure you just need a little work with a rod to get it back to shaving sharpness.

I second the motion on ceramics. I like them better than diamond, presonally.

You also need a decent strop. If you want to put a rolled edge on the hawks, you'll need a few strops and 3-4 different grit compounds to load them with. I've just recently come around to doing this with some of my other blades.

You could do a lot worse than checking out HandAmerican. They sell just about everything I mentioned above.

Their site is www.handamerican.com
