What is a pretty good fool proof sharpening system??? the Bunny ears look like they are for a tv not a knife. And I dull baldes more than sharpen then with a plain stone, Can anyone help. I am looking for an inexpensive solution. Thanks in advance

You'll probably get a bunch of recommendations for the Spyderco Sharmaker 204. You can search for sharpmaker and come up with tons of info, or just go ahead and buy one. You won't be disappointed. If your knives are really dull, or if the edge is damaged, the sharpmaker might not be your best bet, but for maintaining a great edge or putting an edge back on a moderately dull blade, it can't be beat.

I use a lansky sharpening system works great, took my dull blades to perfection:D

80 grit emory cloth clamped in a vise and pulled tight. Follow w/ 150 then 800 grits if you desire. You can use oil, or water as long as you make sure the cloth is wet/dry. Be sure to get cloth, not paper. I dont know if the paper will take the tension you put on the strip. I use 1" or so wide strips, and put the knife blade down so the spine in about 1/8" or so, depending on blade width, off the cloth. You actually want the edge grind line barely off the cloth. Be careful, because the grind line will get scratched if it touches the cloth. You can mask it w/ tape, or just raise it higher so it doesnt touch. Grind until there is a burr on the opposite side of the edge that you are sharpening, then switch. Then, alternate 1-3 strokes on each side until the burr is gone. I also follow up w/ a white crock stick. Cliff Stamp advises using 40 grit zirconium oxide belts hooked over a door knob, but I couldnt find them as easy. Be sure to try an old junk knife first, just to see how it works.

The Spyderco Sharpmaker 204 is all you need.;)

The purpose for the "bunny ears" is to maintain a constant angle while sharpening. Keeping a constant angle is the secret to obtaining that razor edge.

For more info on the 204, you can check HERE.

Mr. Bad Guy, the Spyderco Bunny ears do rule. They are the most versatile system on the market. They are good for everything except profiling. You can buy diamond "ears" separately and profile with them, but they too expensive for many.

Well, you guys would know best. I guess I will try the bunny ears. Anyone got any leads on the cheapest place to get one. (Not sure if that would be advetising) I never even tryed one, Just the look threw me off. Thanks

I have not ordered from this place myself, but have heard nothing but good things about it and will be placing a order soon.
