How can I sharpen my khuks most effectively? I have a leather barber strop with a canvasback. How do I use it best? Im kind of lost on this one, never used a strop before, only diamond files and such, but I don’t want to files away at these blades, they’re just to nice.
Can anyone help me? PLEASE:confused:

hop all is well in ur worlds.
Padi.

Yvsa could probably help you better than I can but, I'll tell you what works for me.

If the knife was fairly sharp when you got it I would use a ceramic rod at least 8" long on the khuks. the round shape helps you conform to the curves of the knife. after the edge feels pretty sharp I strop it on a old 1.5" belt treated with rouge. I hang the belt on a coat hook so I can pull the belt tight if I want to. My 12" AK that LCS gave me will take the hair off your forearm just like a straight razor. I don't like some of the choppers quite that sharp. All though the sharp knife will work longer without attention.

Uncle Bill has sent me a couple that just got sharper with use. Hope I have helped you a bit. If you have to use a flat stone, I had better luck useing the edge of it.:)

Padi, get over it. The khuks are in the end just a tool to be used. They don't look right until they have some scratches on the blade from use.

Padi.

Padi, read the FAQ's man, read the FAQ's!!!!
If you can't sharpen a khuk after reading all the information on sharpening found in the FAQ's then you're hopeless.

If you're hopeless maybe you and Brendan should get together?
Hunh Brendan?:p

lol.
i read the FAQ's, just never used a strop so i was wondering how i use it ( hang it put, lay it on a table, etc.) I dont mind my AK being rough, i got it to strap to my saddle in place of a camp ax. My Kobra id rather have a razor clean edge on it, as i got it for my martial arts practice instead of a tool.\
im getting the hang of it.:)

Well!!!! Why didn't you say so?
Actually it depends on your preferences. Either way works although laying it flat on a table or having it mounted on a board gives the strop less reliencey which leads to a smaller convex.

There you go!!!! Use the proper tool for the job!!!!:)

Okay, I got the picture now. You're gonna impress your opponent with the shiny sharp blade?;)

It doesn't really matter which way you use the strop as either way is effective, it's just your preference. Some people feel having the strop portable as in a leather belt gives one more opportunities to strop their knives rather than having to carry a solid mounted strop in the field.
It can also be advantages to have the strop where it can be mounted to anything solid such as a fence post or even a shrub in the field.
A small amount of compound can be carried along without any problems other than having to clean your belt loops in your pants of the compound after use.

im getting the hang of it.

Sounds as if you'll do fine and that perhaps you've already left Brendan behind in the sharpening field.
But better yet is to follow the old admonishment, "Flies breed disease and babies so keep yours buttoned."
Brendan's learning to, just hope it's quick enough.
Hunh Brendan?:p

Brendan is the bane of fathers all over the world. There's No Way he would've done that to my little girl!!!!
Hunh Brendan?:p  :p ;)

Go to the convex????? thread,They helped me alot too acheive the most for my KHUKES......GOOD LUCK FRANK C.....:D ;)
