Well, I emailed Spark, the owner/administrator of these forums with the suggestion to start a Sharpening forum so that we can put all that info in one place.
I know it requires more work for those that run the forum but it seems like we need it.
What do you guys think? If you feel that it would be helpful, drop Spark a line to let him know.

spark@bladeforums.com

If it dose'nt pan out on these forums, here's a link to the sharpening forum over at Knifeforums.com , lots of useful info there.

There is a large amount of discussion on this subject all over the place. A dedicated forum for it would be a good idea.

Certainly Kevin's call..., but I do think it would be a good idea. Just depends how much sense it makes regarding the overall Forums structure I suppose, and I'm sure he gets requests for new Forums all the time.

Given the number of questions I see regarding sharpening methods.., equipment, and even edge dynamics.., seems like a reasonably broad topic of constant concern to warrant it's own niche.

Good idea! :)

For something so fundamental, common, and having so many right and wrong ways, a Sharpening forum would be a very useful addition to the community.

I don't see a problem with talking about sharpening right here in this forum. I beleive sharpening questions wouldn't get as many replies in a sharpening forum as they do in this forum. It would just become another slow moving forum rarely checked.

db,the main benifit that I can see for a dedicated forum is that it puts the info in one place. That way it's easy to find & becomes a source of reference.
The way things are now, it's hard to find everything on the subject & things keep having to be repeated. Finding what you need here depends on how well you can use the search function, if it's working. Being able to browse it all in one place is a real plus, just check out the link.

I've been to the sharpening forum on the other place and it's a pretty dead forum. I've seen more on sharpening here than I have at the other forum. I have also seen things repeted in the other forum. Truthfully I don't even check it anymore. I did when it first started up and it moves so slowly after a while I just quit looking at it. And, I do check KFC alot and do read many of the forums there, that just isn't one of them.
Edited to add;
So I do see and understand your point I just don't agrre with it.

I understand the desire to have another sub forum. I am not vehemently disagreeing with you but I prefer the status quo. You asked for opinions. Here is mine:

One thing I like about Blade Forums is that there are not too many sub-forums. Other Forums that I visit (not just knife-related sites) have too many sub forums. With all the dedicated sub forums more navigating time is required to find interesting threads. Also, traffic gets diluted – not as much activity.

I don’t have much problem finding new or previous sharpening information on BF – I just use a keyword search.

Just my 2 cents - YMMV,

While a sharpening forum appears edgey at first I believe it would quickly dull as it is a bit like asking which is the best pickup truck, deer rifle caliber or discussion of essential camping equipment to take with you blonde or redhead if you get my point. Agree with me now and save time.

I visit the knife sharpening section on the knifeforums.
I am more interested in knife sharpening than collecting knives and have made my own custom sharpening systems etc, etc, etc.

However it is not a very busy place and most people ask their sharpening questions in the general discussion areas.

I think the same will hold here if the moderators decide on a dedicated sharpened area.

But who cares. As long as we get good participation and everyone enjoys themselves......thats all that matters.

apapercut,,,,, Said:

sharpening forum appears EDGEY,,,,,,would DULL quickly?

Good job, you should write headlines.
