Sorry if this topic has been beaten to death, I tried to search but it isn't working for some reason. Anyway, what's the general consensus as to the best sharpening system? Including ease of use. I want to start sharpening my own blades, I took my Manix to the knife shop at the mall and I wasn't happy at all with the job they did, so I think I'd like to start doing it at home, but I have no experience with it at all, and I don't have alot of room. What can you recommend?

I just purchased a Spyderco Sharpmaker and WOW! I cannot believe the ease with which I can get a very good edge.

I'm a freehand stone guy but the talking monkeys where i work swear by the lansky. they love them and as a matter of fact 2 are in use while i write this. if you can,try a couple of different types before you buy to find what you like best. good luck, ahgar

Edgepro and sharpmaker are 2 very popular systems to use. I'm consistently happy with just the sharpmaker but some prefer more than one type. I usually freehand using the sharpmaker horizontally. Defeats the point of having angles predetermined but I get a better edge this way. Thats just me though. Practice is the key I guess.
