sharpening

I believe it's outlined in the Tips & Tricks sticky at the top of the forum.

In the past, I've done it just by wrapping sandpaper and mousepad around a nub of 2x4. As I recall, the recommended method was to stroke along the edge with the coarser papers and across the edge with the finer ones.

I took the time to do this properly about a year and a half ago on my GRS and it hasn't needed a sharpening since, despite chopping up lots of seasoned pine at the cottage.

I believe the grits I used were 80, 200, and 400. Some people have recommended using Aluminum Oxide sandpaper as it seems to hold onto its grit better - this certainly seemed true for me. 400 leaves a great satin finish, but you'll need to go a lot higher for mirror.
