Can anyone direct me to a good and preferably not too expensive tool to sharpen my convex ground blade. Ive done some research and i believe i need a strop and some compound and maybe some sand paper. anyway maybe you can go a little more into detail on what would be ideal ie brands for strop or compound and where to buy, the knife is a bark river if that matters thanks
also im not real interested in making one myself

Then buy a block of .5micron chromium oxide, I believe they have them in many hardware stores, it's large green rectangular crayon.

Buy sandpaper from 120grit-2500grit, you can probably find them in hardware stores aswell, for touching up you only need to go 1200grit-2500grit then strop, you will only need to get below 600grit for fixing up nicks or doing a full convex on the edge, for using them, just put them ontop of a mousepad(the old ball mouse ones), or a piece of leather and sharpen with the edge trailing.

knivesshipfree also package up a nice little sharpening kit , with sandpaper, strop, and compound in a nice little plastic otter box. It is very portable for camping/hiking etc. But not quite as efficient as the mousepad and sandpaper just because of it's small size. (you can't get as long of a stroke on the blade)

If you are a day hiker or weekend camper, and have a quality knife, it should stay sharp if you sharpen it before heading out.

But if you camp for longer stretches, or just want to throw your gear together and go, this little sharpening kit is excellent. You can relax and sharpen while enjoying the campfire.
