I think it's time for another round of who makes the sharpest blades, production and custom, folder and fixed blade. Only this time, please try and specify the blade grind, edge angles, and edge finish/grit if possible. This would really help those of us looking for the sharper blades.

I'm especially interested in comparisons between Mike Obie, RJ Martin, Rinaldi (esp with the full flat grinds), Bob Dozier, Jimmy Fikes etc.

As for productions, I'd like comparisons between Striders, Spydies, Kershaws and MTs.

Also, what blade steels take the sharpest edge?

I'll start:

Production folders:
Gunting CPM440V PE - sharpened to approx 28 deg included at about 1200 grit and stropped like crazy.
Delica VG10 PE factory edge

What about you guys?

Gilette. Chisel ground and sharper than any of the knives you mentioned. Not much of a chopper.

The sharpest knives that I have handled:

Custom:
RJ Martin Kwaiken - zero ground, CPM3V
Emnerson CQC8 - chisel and zero ground (I'm guessing 154CM)
Mike Obenauf Model 2 recurve - hollow ground, S30V
Bladerigger spike - zero ground (not sure of the steel)
Bladerigger karambit - zero ground, D2

Bottom line: zero grind rules!

Production
Spyderco Ayoob

Anything that Tom Mayo touches. He puts an unbelievable edge on his knives and Sebenza's, a lot sharper than the factory edge that Sebenza's come with. THAT is really saying something

My vote goes to Dozier. Mine had the sharpest edge I have ever seen when I received it, it was truly impressive. I can get a nice sharp edge on it, but nothing like the way Bob can do it. Someday I may have to send it back to him for a sharpening just to experience that level of sharpness again.

any emerson zero bevel grind, i have a collectors assoc P-Tac and a spec war CQC8 w/the zero bevel and they are undoubtebly the sharpest knives i own bar none.

I was really impressed with the factory edge on my Ronin and VG-10 Delica. But my MT LCC beat 'em all.

I just bought a handmade folder by Andre Thorburn from South Africa.
It is my sharpest knife out of the box. 12C27 steel, and such an incredible edge. Even sharper then my Spydercos.

any of your blades draw blood when they lightly touch your skin? I reckon that type of edge cannot be too polished? are their blades you're afraid to touch because they so sharp?

none of my blades pass the free standing hair-cutting, I'm afraid - not my Delica, Gunting or anything....

My Kwaiken and Bladerigger spike give you a "paper cut" with light pressure :D

i'm afraid to run my finger across my kershaw avalanche and chive
they love to give me invisible cuts that i realise only 10 minutes later
