I just ran across my Old Timer Sharpfinger model 152. I can't remember when I got it, but it has to be close to 30 years ago. I'm hoping someone can tell me what steel was used in the blade. I've been working on it using my Sharpmaker and the steel seems pretty hard.
Thanks

1095 is right. That's a great little knife. A taxidermist friend of mine swore by it. He used it for skinning the critters that people brought in to him (black bear for the most part), and once we field dressed two moose together using that knife and my Russell Belt Knife.

I recall sharpening one for a guy at work. It was strong, and well built. It took a good edge. 1095 sounds right. That's what I would have guessed.

Thank you all. It's taking an edge, but it was so dull it may take awhile to get it right.

You might save some time by first taking down the bevel a bit with a coarse stone and then going to the Sharpmaker. In time, you'll get a screaming edge on that muther, or my name's not mnblade. :D

:thumbdn:If you put me, a knife and a regular stone in the same room, you end up with a ruined blade! That's just a skill I've never aquired.
The Sharpmaker is the only method that I've ever had any sucess with, so I better stick with it.

Should you decide to pursue the skill further, there are lots of good threads on the subject in the "Maintenance" forum which I'm certain will be able to help you on the way.
