I own several SOG Bowies and I would like to sharpen the false edge on these Bowies. Can they become a double edged knife?

All Bowie knives or just certain models?

Has anyone sharpened these false edges?

Yes you can sharpen almost any false edge. I sharpened the false edge on my 1217 Ka-Bar and it turned out great. You might find it a little difficult to sharpen if you have a wide stone. I used the tri-angle ceramics from the Sharpmaker.

Didn't you need the Diamonds tabeeb762?

I was wondering while we're talking about sharpening which angle do you guys use? I have a GOV-Tac and I have just received my sharpmaker. My gov was dull from choping wood and I used the recommended (by Spyderco) 40 degrees angle to make it sharp again. It is sharp enough to cut paper and it is not too sharp since aus8 isn't that great and will loose an edge pretty fast. Does anyone also uses ultra fine rods for aus-8?
And will you use the same angle on the spine as on the normal edge, lets say 40 degrees or 20 on each site?

Good luck with your sharpening, it will probably take some time.

Until it is sharpend it is a swedge once you sharpen it, it becomes a false edge.

One of the oddities of the knife world. http://www.agrussell.com/Knife-Encylopedia/a/113/
