I just received this and am impressed. I noticed on the smooth stone a small bump on the corner edge. Will this hurt anything and if I take a course stone and grind it down, will it ruin it. Secondly, I also have the paper wheels system. Do you think I still need the ultra fine stones or will the paper wheels replace it for the final finishing.

thanks in advance.

Greetings joesrx: A small bump on the fine stone can be annoying. I did not find any measurable negative effect on the blade edge when sharpening, using my fine rod which also had a small bump. A chip, however, will have a dulling effect each time that blade edge passes over it and minutely impacts the side of the chip. The ceramic Sharpmaker medium and fine rods appear to be equal in hardness. Rubbing one against an other will not appreciably reduce the bump. A DIAMOND lap, stone, rod etc. was the only thing that worked for me in both reducing a bump or smoothing a chip in ceramic rods. Or don't use the side of the rod with a bump or chip. OldDude1

I like to sharpen my knives on the 75 degree setting all the way through the extra fine stones. Then I set the EF stones to the 70 degree position and very lightly deburr the micro edge (weight of knife only).
