I'm looking into a knife sharpner. The sharpmaker was recommended. What is the difference (if at all) between the 203 and 204. At some point in the not too distant future I'll have a need to sharpen a number of my knives (Spyderco Goddard c18ps (partially serriated), my Busse infi steel BM, and a Dozier D2). Is the sharpmaker the right tool for the task?

You Bet!! The 204 is an improvement of the 203. Highly recommend it because it comes with an instructional video. Some 203s are still being sold. 203s with diamond sleeves are the rare ones!

If you have sharpening chores ~ the 204 should do just the job!

Keep in mind that while the 204 has two preset angles for the stones, not all makers have their sharpened edges at the same angles. Spydercos and quite a few other factory/ production knives are fine but in the case of the Dozier you mentioned, you really have to find that correct angle by adjusting your hold against the stones. Just a thought.

Nakano, I appreciate the insight into the use of the SP204.
Let me ask this, and I realize this may not be the "proper" forum to be posting this question, should I be looking elseware (other products, and or manufactures) for sharpening my equipment? Or, is the 204 a good match for the tasks at hand, with the knowledge that I may have to modify the blade angle as I sharpen the knife. The pieces listed above, with the addition of a small randall, are really all that I use when in the field, that require edge maintaince.
