Hey everyone just wanted to say hi and get a little info. First off this is my first post so thank you for a great place to get info on knives.

My question is will the spyderco sharpmaker work for broadheads as well as knives? IM useing montec's and magnus stinger is this helps.

thanks everyone!

It would work great for the Stingers... Not sure if the Montecs would work with it or not. I'm having a hard time picturing them...

Thanks, the montecs are three blades. From the information that i have gathered most broadheads are 22 or so degrees. I thought the sharpmaker would only do 30 and 40 degrees. This is why i need help, im still a newbie to kinfe and broadhead sharpening.

Check and see if the 22 degree angle on the broadheads is total (11 + 11) or 22 degrees per side (22 + 22). The 11 + 11 would work on either of the Sharpmakers standard settings, you would just end up with a microbevel at 15 degrees. If it's 22 degrees per side, you can still use the Sharpmaker rods/triangles, but you'll have to do it free hand. The grit of the Sharpmaker stones is fine enough for the type of edge a broadhead needs.

I think it would be 22 on each side making 44 overall. I am not sure if 2 deg on each would weaken the blade to much.

thanks guys. Would a diff system work better?

I wouldn't think the loss of 2 degrees would make a difference. Hitting bone or missing and hitting dirt at hunting bow speeds will chip a 44 degree edge just as easy as a thinner one.

If you are removing damage from the blades, like chips or bends, a bench stone of coarse grit will be much faster than the Sharpmaker. If you just keep them sharp, the Sharpmaker will work.

there is a bowhunting supply center in alaska that is selling paper wheels to its customers for sharpening broadheads. check out alaska bow hunting supply. they have a picture of a guy shaving his face with a 2 blade broadhead. the system is the same as what i use for my knives. i sharpen several friends broadheads on them every year.

thanks for the info guys. I figure for the most part ill just be fine tuneing the edges of most of mine straight out of the package. I want something that is pretty much a no brainer for knives also. I have a set of 3 flat Arkansas stones from smokey mountain knife works. I gotta say i can get a decent edge with them on most knives but it takes for ever and I still think I don't know enough about what I am doing. I have been around knives for years and have yet to learn the proper way to sharpen. I feel like the caveman that hasn't upgraded from the square wheel to the new round ones.
