I just got my sharpmaker and Endura FFG. My first real knife! I love it already!
I watched the DVD to the sharpmaker yesterday. And I practiced with a cheaper dull knife. I can actually shave paper, never could do that before with this blade.

Anyway, I have a question. On the FFG, how do I sharpen it? On the 30 or 40 degree side? I really have no idea!
Other than that, I'm really loving the sharpmaker. It's easier than I thought.
Thanks!

Use the 40 degree side. When you touch up a knife on the Sharmaker, you want to add a secondary, or micro, bevel at a greater angle than the primary bevel. Spyderco shoots for a 30 degree primary bevel from the factory (there will be some variance, as they are ground by hand), so 40 is what you want. FFG is no different from hollow ground in this respect.

Some Spyders will come from the factory with a primary bevel of less than 30 degrees. You may be able to use the 30 degree setting with these knives, but 40 works fine, and you will save yourself much frustration by sticking with 40.
