A few months back,I bought the sharpmaker because of it's versatility to sharpen a variety of items but then I encountered a problem sharpening my scissors.

With the Sharpmaker on the edge of a flat and stable table,I would place the ceramic rod into the end of the base, with the other hand holding the pair of scissors, and with the weight of my arm on the base.I would proceded to attempt to sharpen but every attempt fails because the rod constantly drops closer and closer to the surface of the table.

The result is an inconstant angle with even the slightest amount of pressure on the ceramic rods.I did find that even with all the weight of my arm and upper body weighting down on the blade plastic sharpener cover and base makes no difference.I did find that when the ceramic rod is inserted into the side slot it has the tendency to want to separate the two halves that make of the base of the sharpmaker. After That I took the base apart to see how it was constructed and found that the two halves just snap together.

Am I doing something wrong.I even watched the dvd twice and followed Sal instructions exactly.

The rod is acting as a pry bar seperating the two pieces. I don't use the cover when sharpening scissors. I just hold the base with one hand and the scissors with the other. Make sure the base is snapped togeather tightly. Mine has never seperated. Another way to touch up scissors is to cut very fine steel wool. If the base seperates that easy I would contact Spyderco with this issue and see if they can assist you. Good luck.
