What angle should I use on my Kabar 1217? Or I guess, what is the stock angle for the Kabar 1217? Thanks

The stock anlge on my Ka-Bar was too thick for the sharpmaker, I had to thin it out quite a bit before I got anywhere.

Yes, I just found that out myself. :)

Unfortunately, My Lansky's largest angle is smaller than the 20 degree on the sharpmaker. crap

Ummmm.... that's a good thing, no? You want it at, say, 17 degrees per side, so that when you take it to the 20 degrees per side of the Sharpmaker, it only has to grind away the VERY edge.

Well, I didn't really want to reprofile the blade. I guess I'll have to if I want it sharp enough for me.

I don't understand the questions about what angle to use on the Sharpmaker. There are only two settings 30 and 40 degrees inclusive. Normally one should use the 30 degree setting for the back bevel and the 40 degree setting for the primary bevel. If you want another angle then I would assume that you will have to use another system or free hand.
