There are two angles on the sharpmaker. Which angle do i use for new plain edge spydercos?

I know that the steeper angle is for a sharper blade and the wider angle is for a stronger edge holding. I have been using the wider angle for my spydercos because, for me, it seems to work better. But now I awalys wondered which one I should use on a knife and how can i tell what the correct angle is that is alreadey on the blade?

Which angle do you use and why?

Take a Sharpie® and mark the edge. Do a couple of swipes on the Sharpmaker. The angle that removes the most ink is the closest to the existing edge angle. Or, follow the examples on the included DVD. 30° inclusive for the secondary (or back) bevel, 40° for the primary.

After a while you can get fancy and set different angles by propping up the Sharpmaker base.

Is the 30 the wider and 40 the closer with the sticks are apart?

What is "back bevel"?

Secondary ??

This is why I asked this question because whenever I see a post on sharpening it does not translate to laymans terms. Can someone explain so that I can understand?

Do the twenty strokes a step on the 30 degree back bevel.

Then to ten strokes a step on the 40 degree edge.

The back bevel helps remove some of the shoulder, producing an easier cut.

(If you watched the DVD you should know this. ;) )

it sounds wrong but you want to do your main sharpening at the sharper angle, get the angle set and itll cut good. Then finish it off with a tiny little microscopic edge using the WIDER angle. This makes the blade plenty sharp but more durable. Its on the dvd video on youtube.
