Have a couple questions about which angles to use for shich knife. I only use a sharpmaker and wanted to know which steps (30 or 40 degree) to use for each..

normally i start with the 30 degree angle and then finish with the 40 degree angle. But I heard from another thread these knifes come with different angle from the maker.

So which steps is best for the Sebenza, Umnun, Strider and Hinderer XM-18?

Since Strider SNG comes with a 22.5 degree is the 30 degree best? ...and so on...

Ah that is per side with a total of 45 degrees. ;)

You will be working FOREVER getting the edge evened out and reprofiled on a Sharpmaker, S30V is very hard steel.

Got with 40 degrees and prepare to spend a very long time working on it.

If it is a Spyderco, yes. Most other knives are much thicker at the edge. Striders, Hinderer's and Sebenza's are about the same at 22-23 deg. You need to remove 7-8 deg of metal to get to 15.

The angles on the sharpmaker will work for any knife. If you want to finish with 30 instead of 40 thats fine.

Go to your local Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Lowes and find an el cheapo diamond stone. They generally run about 10 bucks or so.

Take this diamond stone, and lay it or rubber band it to the stone on the Sharpmaker and start your re-profiling on the 30 degree angle. Make sure to use a sharpie to mark the edge and make sure to raise a burr on each side.

Once you are done, switch over to the brown rods and sharpen as normal.
