Sharpmaker Angles

I have an old Sharp Maker and the angle is 22.5 degrees will this work ok or is the 30 and 40 degree angles much better?I use it on my Cold steel trailmaster and my machete.I would like to do my folders with it but i dont want to mess them up. Thanks johnny

Is it 22.5 per side or 22.5 included? I assume that is per side, since the old SharpMakers started out at 20 per side (40 included) and could open up with some wear. 45 included is probably OK for a machete and should be quite durable for a hard-use knife. I prefer to keep my edges a bit more acute than that, and many of the better steels can hold up well even at less than the 30 degrees included of the newer SharpMaker. I run my ZDP-189 blades at about 12 per side or 24 degrees included.
