Sharpmaker Brown Stones?

I've got a question about the brown sharpmaker stones.

I've used my sharpmaker for years without issues, and don't really have many problems using this system. It works great, sharpens knives quickly, and handles all tasks thrown at it. However, when sharpening knives on the corner of my brown stones, I hear a sound and vibration that makes me feel like the corner of the stones might be chipped or pitted. My stones have not been abused, dropped, or beaten up on anything. I'm not sure where the pitting might come from, or if I'm just crazy. Could it be a chipped or rolled edge on a knife that is making it happen? Are the stones fine and I'm just crazy? Or is this common and something that is meant to happen?

Does anyone else have a similar experience? Thanks.

The stones could be chipped. It doesn't take much to put a little micro chip in one of them. You have to be very careful when cleaning them to not let them bang into each other. That being said it could also be a bad place on the blade. Does it do this on all knives or only on one knife? Try holding the knife blade up to a bright light and see if you can observe any chips or bad places on the blade.

The browns are designed as a "wear" piece so it might be time to replace them after years of service.

Try sharpening that knife on the other edges and you should be able to tell if its the knife or the rod. Its pretty unlikely that its chipped/pitted at the same area on all edges and on both rods.
Mine came with a tiny chip on 1 edge which pans a little on the 2 adjacent sides and it sharpens just as well with no discernible differences. I just don't use that side as much.
