Dear forumites,

I recently purchased a Sharpmaker 204, and I love it! But alas, there is a flaw in everything and this sharpmaker is not without it's own. One of the corners of one of the fine ceramic rods has what appears to be a series of "burrs", for lack of a better term, that tend to catch the edge when that particular corner is used to hone. These rough areas are barely visible to the naked eye, but make their presence known when sharpening commences. Is there a method that I could use to remove the rough spots on the stone without severely damaging it? Thanks for the replies

I've fix this for the mediums by kind of rubbing the spot that it's catching with the flat side of the other stone.
Don't try it until others puts their thoughts into this one....
You can try to search too.. I dunno if the search is enable or disable for you guys right now...

catmath,
I don't know if you have the video for the sharpmaker, but IIRC you rub the rods against each other to 'break them in' This is probably to remove the rough spots. I only remember doing an edge/edge rubbing though. The flat sides of mine were fine.

Be Excellent to each other.

I think thats on most all of them. Some rods are not perfectly straight either. It seems to have little effect on the outcome of sharpening though. With or without them I get the same excellent result. I have had it on at least a couple edges of all the white stones I own in two sharpmaker sets bought years apart. I could try rubbing the edges against one another. Might wear it down faster, as the blade steel is not nearly as hard. But it does seem to alter my sharpening result.
