Can someone give me a breakdown of the grits for the sharpmaker rods?

Seems like the diamond ones are about 400 and the ultra fine is about 1200. Is this correct? What are the grits for the other rods?

Greetings Dennis~
~The diamond hollow rods are 400 mesh
~The medium stones are 600 grit
~The fine stones are 1800 grit

I'm not sure of the grit on the ultra fine. I'm thinking that they would be the same as our ultra-fine bench stones.....2000 grit.

Aloha~

Hi Shootist. "Have knowledge, will share". I'm going to have to contradict part of what you say Patti. The diamonds are in fact a 400 mesh, which is measurable. All of the ceramics cannot be accurately gritted and all of the grits that you see actually in numbers are guesses.

Most abrasives use a grit measurement to detemine the grit. These particles have a way of being measured. Ceramic abrasives use alumina in micron sizes and it is the firing processes or after firing operations that alter those surfaces.

You could compare by feel, or by actual removal of metal, but there are no hard and fast numbers that can be applied to the ceramic abrasives.

Thank you Mr. Glesser. I recently got the ultra-fine sharpmaker rods. I am very, very impressed. I can now get my knives sharper than I could previously attain. The diamond rods are next on my list of "must haves".

I may have been absent a bit from this forum. But are the NEW diamond rods actually the long anticipated/ discussed about speed sleeves that were due to come in 2002? I gather they are available now?
