Ok, I have a Razor Edge Guide (which I really like), & would like to do semi-freehand sharpening. I see alot of folks here like the S.M., is it very hard to learn on, & what is its quality? I like the way you can put 2 bevels on a blade without redoing screws & also wasting 2" of stone like on the R.E.G. Also, I think it would be easier to take fishing & NOT have small allen wrences get lost. Is it worth the $65, or should i just keep going with my R.E.G.?

Not sure what the REG is, but The sharpmaker is not hard to learn on. It's worth the money. Very easy to maintain as well. If you wanted to bring it fishing, you could being that is is small and easily portable. Watch the dvd it comes with before you use it so your more familiar with it.

I think the Sharpmaker is well worth the money. I keep mine in my knife case for work and use it almost daily. It'll get a good knife extremely sharp, and I've been told with the addition of the Super Fine rods you can get a blade even sharper.

At home I use an Edge Pro Apex, but the Spyderco is very handy for portable sharpening. It packs neatly into its case and almost as importantly, once it's packed up it doesn't rattle at all.
