Sharpmaker Question

At first, I was going to put this question in "General", but I feel that I'll get a better response here where more people actually use Sharpmakers. I need something to sharpen my serrated Spyderco knives plus a few non-Spydercos too. I talked to the folks at SOG about sharpening the serrations on my SEAL Pup. To my surprise, they said that they had no way! Just "try to remove any rough spots and the serrations should stay SHARP ENOUGH"! I found this a very strange thing to hear from a SOG rep. I will be able to get a great price on a new Sharpmaker 204 at next months gun & knife show. I was planning on buying a Sharpmaker to keep my Spydercos in top notch condition and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't do the same for the SOG SEAL Pup. No problems--right??

Thanks,
KR

Hi,
I just bought a sharpmaker last weekend and I'm really happy with it.

I have not sharpened any serrated knives yet so I'm not going to be much help in answering your question.

I don't even own a serrated knive because I was not sure if I would be able to sharpen it very good when it needed it, but now that I have the sharpmaker and have had a chance to use it I don't see were it would have a problem sharpening any serrated blade.

I did have a serrated spyderco for a couple of day's. It was one of the pass around that DaveH did. When I got it I was shocked at how sharp it was. I think it was the sharpest knife I ever had in my hands. Come to find out the guy befor me in the pass around touched it up on the sharpmaker before he sent it to me.

I say get the sharpmaker. Watch the video and read the instructions that come with it. Try it out on a couple knives.
If for some reason you don't like it you can always trade it here on BF for something else.

I'm very happy with the sharpmaker and I think you would be too.

A video comes with the Sharpmaker that shows you hou to use it? Now that is classy! Are you sure? A VCR tape?

*Guys who own Sharpmaker 204's: Do you have any problem getting the "little" serrations sharp also? Sorry to be coming off like such an amateur here. I can actually sharpen "plain" blades quite well.

One great video and a 26 page instruction book.
Sal himself is on the video tape, preaty cool!

I also like how everything fits into the case. Very compact.

OK~I'm going to purchase the Sharpmaker. I've gotten a lot of e-mails and it just HAS to be able to sharpen the serrations on the SEAL Pup. I find it very strange that someone at SOG would give me the information that the "only thing I can do about the serrations is try to remove the rough spots and they should stay sharp enough". Very odd.
